Sarah began her practice in a hot yoga studio as a way to get a good work out. She quickly got hooked because it began healing her body, and fulfilling her mind and soul as well. Within a year of practicing, and a little reluctantly, the owner suggested that she go for her 200-hour teacher training. While speaking in front of a group was (and still is!) her BIGGEST fear, she courageously began teaching. Within a year she was teaching yoga full-time. Sarah just moved from Wilmington, NC. She instantly felt loved and supported by the Get Hot Yoga community. This is what she offers in her classes- a sense of community. She believes each person is already whole and perfect as they are- her hope for each practice is to help each student remember this Truth. Sarah’s style of yoga is dynamic and full of inquiry- the intention is always different but with a common theme- to incorporate awareness and integration of body, mind, and soul throughout the practice so that it can be practiced off the mat as well. Whether it is through a challenging pose, laughter, therapeutic oils, breath work, or self-discovery, her objection is to create a space in which the students feel strong and grounded yet inspired and uplifted.

iRest and Yoga Nidra

Posted on: January 3, 2017

Mar.25th,  2017

1 – 3pmcairn1

Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice that is also known as yogic sleep or sleep with awareness, it is intended to induce full-body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness. “Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of complete relaxation, holistically addressing our physiological, neurological, and subconscious needs.”

By quieting the overactive conscious mind, you move into a meditative state, gradually finding a state of “ultimate harmony,” in which the brain waves slow down and a subtle euphoria emerges.

“Yoga Nidra uniquely unwinds the nervous system, which is the foundation of the body’s well-being.”

Restorative yoga is something completely different from other types of yoga classes since props are used to support your body instead of your muscles.

It’s about slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching.

During these long holds, your muscles relax deeply. Restorative classes are very mellow, making them a good complement to more active practices and an excellent antidote to stress.

Suzanne began ballet lessons at the age of 5 and continued until she was 18 years old culminating with a scholarship to the San Francisco School of Ballet.  However, a career in ballet was not what the Universe had in mind for her.   It was 44 years later in 2011 that she reconnected with her love of movement when her son took her to her first 90 minute hot yoga class at Bikram Yoga Manhattan Beach, CA.  She rolled around on the floor, breathless and red faced, like a fish out of water and when it was over she exclaimed, “This is the best thing that has ever happened to me.  I have to learn how to teach this.” She passionately set out with great determination to make it happen as quickly as possible.

Today, nearly six years later, Suzanne is an E-RYT 200 and YACEP.  It is with great joy and 600 hours of Certified Teacher Training behind her she continues to study with the modern masters of yoga regularly, sharing in her classes what she has learned and in Workshop/Clinic formats as well.
